Apple Releases New Penryn Based MacBooks & MacBook Pros
After weeks of speculation, Apple has finally released the long-awaited Penryn-based MacBook Pros alongside new revised MacBooks.
MacBook Pro:
The new MacBook Pros ship with Intel’s newest Penryn-based Core 2 Duo Microprocessor. It is available in 3 configurations from the online Apple Store:
£1,299 15” MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB Memory, 200GB HDD, 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
£1,599 15” MacBook Pro 2.5GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB Memory, 250GB HDD, 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
£1,799 17” MacBook Pro 2.5GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB Memory, 250GB HDD, 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Included in all models of the MacBook Pro is the same Multi-Touch trackpad that shipped with the MacBook Air in January. This allows users to pinch, swipe and rotate in applications such as Safari, iPhoto, and Aperture 2.
All models of MacBook Pro ship with a 8x Double-Layer SuperDrive and both the 15” and 17” models boast LED backlit widescreen displays. Meanwhile, a 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo is available as a built-to-order option at the Apple Store.
MacBook:
Apple also updated the MacBook range today, which now ship with larger hard drives, and more memory as standard. There are 3 configurations of MacBook available from the online Apple Store:
£699 13” White MacBook, 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo, 1GB Memory, 120GB HDD, Combo Drive, Intel GMA X3100 Graphics
£829 13” White MacBook, 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB Memory, 160GB HDD, SuperDrive, Intel GMA X3100 Graphics
£949 13” Black MacBook, 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB Memory, 250GB HDD, SuperDrive, Intel GMA X3100 Graphics
Surprisingly, Apple has decided to continue offering only the Combo drive with the entry level £699 model, with no option to get a SuperDrive built in. This means that users who want an internal DVD-burning solution will have to look at the mid-range £829 MacBook or consider an external DVD-burner.
Furthermore, Apple no longer includes the Apple Remote with either the MacBook or MacBook Pro, which remains available separately to purchase at the online Apple Store.
